Understanding the Transfer

What Is an FFL?

FFL stands for Federal Firearms License. An FFL dealer is legally licensed to receive firearms and complete firearm transfers.

Rather than shipping a standard firearm order directly to your residence, Ready Gunner sends it to the licensed dealer you select. Local customers may also choose Ready Gunner pickup when that option is available.

1
Choose an FFL or Ready Gunner pickup For shipped orders, select a dealer that accepts transfers. Local customers may choose Ready Gunner pickup when that option is available.
2
Ask about their transfer fee Receiving dealers may charge their own transfer fee, which is separate from your Ready Gunner order.
3
Wait until the dealer says it is ready Delivery confirmation does not always mean the firearm is immediately processed and ready for pickup.
4
Complete the transfer in person Bring valid identification and any additional documents required by your receiving dealer or state.

After Checkout

What Happens After You Place Your Order?

The exact path depends on whether the firearm ships to another FFL or is picked up at Ready Gunner. Here is the normal process.

1

Ready Gunner Reviews Your Order

Our team reviews the order, the selected receiving dealer and any applicable shipping or legal restrictions.

2

Your Delivery or Pickup Option Is Confirmed

For shipped orders, the receiving dealer must have valid licensing information on file. For local pickup, Ready Gunner confirms that the order will be completed in store.

3

We Ship or Prepare the Firearm for Pickup

Once the order is approved, Ready Gunner ships the firearm to the verified receiving FFL or prepares it for pickup at the Ready Gunner store.

4

You Receive a Ready-for-Pickup Confirmation

A receiving dealer must process a delivered firearm before transfer. For local pickup, Ready Gunner prepares the order. Wait until the applicable dealer confirms it is ready.

5

You Complete the Transfer and Pick Up

Visit your receiving dealer or Ready Gunner, provide the required identification and complete Form 4473 and the applicable background-check process. All applicable requirements must be satisfied before release.

Frequently Asked Questions

Online Firearm Purchase FAQ

Answers to the questions customers most frequently have before placing an online firearm order.

Can Ready Gunner ship a firearm directly to my home?

A standard online firearm order is not shipped directly to your home. It is sent to the licensed dealer you select, or prepared for pickup at Ready Gunner when local pickup is available. The required transfer must be completed before the firearm is released.

What does FFL mean?

FFL stands for Federal Firearms License. An FFL dealer is licensed to receive firearms and complete transfers in accordance with applicable law.

How do I choose an FFL dealer?

During checkout, select a licensed dealer near you or choose Ready Gunner pickup when available. For another dealer, contact them before ordering when possible to confirm that they accept transfers and ask about fees.

What if I cannot find my preferred dealer?

Text Ready Gunner at 801-435-8246 before completing the order. Our team can help with the dealer information, locate another receiving FFL or explain the Ready Gunner pickup option when available.

Will the receiving dealer charge me a fee?

Many receiving dealers charge a transfer fee for their service. That fee is established and collected by the receiving dealer and is generally separate from your Ready Gunner order. Confirm the amount directly with the dealer before ordering.

When should I go to pick up my firearm?

Wait until the receiving dealer or Ready Gunner tells you the firearm has been processed and is ready. Carrier delivery confirmation alone does not mean a shipped firearm is ready for transfer.

Can I buy online and pick up at Ready Gunner?

When Ready Gunner pickup is available during checkout, local customers may complete the purchase online and finish the required transfer at the Ready Gunner store. Wait for confirmation that the order is ready before coming in.

What do I need to bring for pickup?

Bring valid government-issued identification and any additional documents required by the receiving dealer, Ready Gunner, your state or your locality. Contact the location handling your transfer before pickup to confirm its requirements.

What happens during the transfer?

The receiving FFL or Ready Gunner will verify your identity, have you complete the required transaction paperwork and conduct the applicable background-check process. The firearm cannot be released unless all applicable requirements are satisfied.

Can someone else pick up the firearm for me?

The actual purchaser and transferee must comply with all applicable laws and complete the required transfer process. Never purchase a firearm on behalf of someone who is prohibited from receiving or possessing it. Contact Ready Gunner before ordering when the purchaser or recipient information is unclear.

What happens if my background check is delayed or denied?

The receiving dealer must follow the applicable federal and state procedures. Contact the receiving dealer and Ready Gunner for information about the order and any store policies that may apply. Ready Gunner cannot guarantee approval or the timing of a background-check decision.

Can Ready Gunner ship every firearm to every state?

No. Firearm models, configurations, magazines and other products may be restricted in certain states or localities. Orders are subject to legal and dealer verification before shipment.

Does this process apply to NFA firearms?

NFA-regulated firearms follow a different process and involve additional federal paperwork, transfers and approval requirements. Contact Ready Gunner before placing an NFA order so our team can explain the applicable process.
