NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting Course

This class is the OFFICIAL certified NRA (National Rifle Association) Basics of Pistol Shooting Course and is designed to establish the fundamental techniques with your firearm.

The classroom portion of the training is provided through the NRA online course (“e-learning”). The live-fire range portion is completed inside the Ready Gunner range over a 2–3 hour timeframe.

This class is taught by a certified NRA instructor.

After purchasing the course, you will receive an NRA e-learning access code within 24 hours. You must complete and pass the online coursework and NRA testing before attending the live-fire range portion.

If you do not have a firearm, rentals are available at the range counter. Ready Gunner ammunition must be used in all rental firearms.

Before selecting a range date, ensure you have enough time to complete the e-learning portion first.

Course Topics

• Firearm safety rules
• Revolver and semi-automatic pistol operation
• Ammunition knowledge and selection
• Pistol selection and storage
• Shooting fundamentals
• Pistol inspection and maintenance
• Marksmanship
• Shooting range safety

Students will complete live-fire training and nationally standardized shooting qualifications while supervised by an NRA Certified Instructor.

Upon successful completion, students receive:

• NRA Guide: Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook
• Course completion certificate signed by the NRA Secretary and instructor

Time Commitment

• Approx. 8 hours of self-paced e-learning
• 2–3 hours of live-fire range instruction

Required Gear for Live Fire

• Handgun
• Hearing protection
• Eye protection
• 100 rounds of ammunition
• Closed-toe shoes
• Casual range-appropriate clothing

Firearms and gear may be rented or purchased in-store if needed.

Eye and ear protection must be worn at all times inside the range.
